2022 Wedding Trends

2022 is projected to be one of the biggest years for weddings in decades. It is estimated that there will be 2.5 million weddings in 2022. That's more than we've seen since 1984! I have to ask. Why are we seeing so many people getting married in 2022? The major contributing factor to the steep increase in weddings this year is the Corona virus Pandemic that cancelled, postponed, and minimized hundreds of weddings over the past two years. About 40% of weddings from 2020-2021 were postponed or cancelled altogether. While the pandemic isn’t over yet, people are ready to finally get married and celebrate! And it's about time they got to! This year is going to be an exciting year for the wedding industry with lots of new trends to look forward to. Here are some of the 2022 wedding trends that you need to say “I do” to this year:

Weekday Weddings

With the increase of weddings this year, vendors are booking up quickly. It is harder and harder to find vendors and venues who have your preferred date available. This can be very frustrating when you are first starting your wedding planning process. The best way to avoid getting that “unfortunately I am not available on your date” email over and over again, is to get married on a weekday! This may not be the best option for everyone as getting off from work and school can be difficult for you and your guests, but there are a lot of advantages to weekday weddings. These advantages include: More flexibility with vendor’s availability, lowered venue rates and costs, and no competition for rentals.

Nontraditional Venues

2022 just began, and most venues in Northwest Arkansas are already completely booked for the year. That is insane! Finding a venue for your wedding date is becoming increasingly more difficult. Just because all of the venues you are interested in are booked, doesn’t mean that you can't get married and it definitely isn’t the end of the world. Many brides struggling to find a venue are going to be forced to pursue other options. We are seeing more and more backyard weddings, destination weddings, and weddings at Airbnb and Vrbo properties. I myself am considering having my wedding at an Airbnb! Weddings like these are so much fun, because you get to be creative and do something no one else has ever done before at your wedding.

Pantone Color of the Year- Very Peri

Each year Pantone selects a color of the year and the 2022 color of the year is *drum roll* PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri. “The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer.” said Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. Pantone’s color of the year inspires designs in industries like fashion, graphic design, interior design, and that’s right, you guessed it, weddings. While you may not have realized it, the Panton color of the year has had a huge impact on the design aspects of weddings in years past, and you can expect to see Very Peri at weddings in 2022.

Floral Ceiling Installments

Large floral installations provide a magical touch to any wedding. Imagine dining under a cloud of fragrant flowers. These extravagant floral arrangements are a piece of artwork that can elevate the design aspect of any wedding. I love these installations, they give me secret garden vibes and I am so excited to see the amazing floral work that florists will design  and create this year.

Monochromatic Color Schemes

If you’re planning a wedding right now, you know one of the biggest decisions you have to make is what your wedding colors are going to be. In recent years, it has been popular to pick not one, but two complimentary wedding colors that will be used in the design of every detail of your wedding. It can be stressful to pick just the right colors that look well together, on your bridesmaids, and that you and your fiancé agree on. In 2022, brides are skipping all the hassle of picking two colors. Wedding colors and designs are being revolutionized by picking one color and running with it. This monochromatic trend is the perfect way to have a seamless wedding design. This monochromatic look is achieved by selecting one color and having all of your wedding décor be a shade of that single color.

Pearls

Pearls have been on a slow comeback for a while now, but I am excited to announce that they are officially, “back in style.” In 2022 you will see pearls on handbags, jackets, veils, weddings dresses, shoes, and even engagement rings! For years, diamonds have dominated when it comes to wedding gemstones. After all, they are girls' best friend, right? Not in 2022! Alternative gems are becoming increasingly more popular as they are more affordable and more environmentally friendly. In 2022, we’ll all be seeing pearls.

Wedding Rompers & Suits

While most brides are sticking with the traditional white wedding dress, each year we see more and more bride’s opting for more exciting and unique attire for their wedding day. If it is truly “the bride's big day,” the bride should be able to choose to wear whatever she wants regardless of the color or style, right? White rompers and women’s suits have become increasingly popular as brides make their big day their own. I am a huge fan of these sleek and modern bridal outfits. Wedding attire is supposed to make a statement, and a romper or suit definitely makes a statement.  A statement about the modern bride. The wedding isn’t about the dress, it's about two people committing their lives to one another in the name of love.

Custom Cocktails

Now This is a trend that I can get behind. Custom Cocktails have been around for a while, but have only been seen in high profile weddings with 300+ guests and large budgets. This year, custom cocktails will be seen at more and more weddings. Batching these cocktails and premixing them is a cost effective way for couples to afford at their wedding regardless of the budget. You don’t have to have a large budget to provide a cocktail option at your wedding. These fun cocktails and their creative and punny names are a great addition to your wedding and are a simple way to elevate your guest’s experience.

Overall 2022 is a big year for weddings and will set trends for the next decade of wedding planning and design. So many couples have waited too long to get married with delays and cancellation due to the Covid Pandemic This is the year to make up for all of that waiting. Weddings will start to get bigger, more frequent, and extravagant.

If you are planning to include any of these trends at your wedding, I would love to hear about it. Which of these trends is your favorite? Don’t miss another post from Aisle to Altar and SUBSCRIBE below for weekly updates on the best wedding content for Northwest Arkansas weddings.
