From Numbers to Up-dos: Maggie's Unique Journey

Some people are born knowing exactly what they want to do. For Maggie Mae, owner of Blossom Beauty, playing "beauty salon" in her mother's bathroom as a child was an early sign of her passion. However, her path to beauty entrepreneurship took a practical detour first.

"I was always interested in hair and makeup, but decided to get a degree first," Maggie explains. With a business degree and experience as a CPA, she brings a rare combination of creative talent and business know-how to Blossom Beauty. She says that, "Understanding the importance of running a good business while also embracing creativity has been crucial to our success.”

Blossom Beauty's Evolution

Founded in 2015 when Maggie moved to Eureka Springs, Blossom Beauty initially operated as a traditional salon offering cuts, colors, and occasional wedding services. What surprised Maggie was discovering an untapped market in what she assumed would be a saturated wedding industry.

"Eureka Springs is a popular wedding destination, so I assumed the local industry would be really saturated, but the opposite was true," Maggie recalls. "The need for wedding hair and makeup was exciting because I've always loved updos and special occasion beauty services."

By 2016, Maggie had assembled a team of beauty artists, some of whom remain with her today. After navigating personal challenges, including losing her father in 2019, Blossom Beauty transitioned to full-time wedding hair and makeup services in 2020.

Finding Joy in Wedding Day Transformations

The shift to weddings-only services was more than a business decision—it was a heartfelt one.

"I'm very much an empath," Maggie explains. "When my studio was in my home, clients shared about their personal lives, and it was often very heavy. Weddings are always joyous and happy occasions. I enjoy celebrating with someone on their wedding day."

This focus on joy extends to her leadership style: "I love leading a team of artists who want to pursue their passion but don't want to deal with all the business logistics. I'm good at the business side of things and can provide an opportunity for my team members to pursue their passion for hair and makeup."

The Ideal Blossom Beauty Client

Maggie's ideal clients understand the value of professional beauty services. "Our brides prioritize their hair and makeup because they want to look and feel their best on their wedding day," she says. "They typically book us 9-10 months in advance and don't see beauty services as an afterthought."

She also appreciates working with couples who have hired wedding planners: "I love when brides have a planner because they are less stressed."

Wisdom for Wedding Planning

When asked what advice she'd offer engaged couples, Maggie emphasizes authenticity: "Think about what's important to you and don't be swayed by what everyone else is doing. Identify your priorities and adjust your budget accordingly. Don't follow a wedding budget template online."

Her most important reminder? "At the end of the day, it's your wedding, it's your party, it's your marriage. Start it the way you want it to start."

Inclusive Beauty for All

Blossom Beauty proudly provides services to anyone and everyone, embracing inclusivity in all aspects of their work.
